Women's Sport

Welcome to the Women’s Sport section of the vicsport website. With the closure of Women’s Sport & Recreation Victoria in mid 2007, vicsport has taken on the important role of promoting women’s sport initiatives at all levels. With the support of the Minister for Sport James Merlino, Sport & Recreation Victoria, and VicHealth, vicsport works with sports to improve access for, and representation of, women in all aspects of sport. Advocating positive changes for women in the sport and active recreation sector.

As part of our role in promoting women's sport, vicsport has identified a number of key objectives to deliver over the next three years. These objectives include:

  • Advocating on issues affecting women in sport to various stakeholders
  • Promoting a broader choice of inclusive and equitable opportunities for women of varying social, physical and cultural backgrounds
  • Developing workshops, forums and conferences that inform and educate women in the Victorian sporting and active recreation community
  • Establishing a Women’s Sport Advisory Group to help identify issues, barriers and enablers affecting women's sport and women in sport
  • Creating and distributing an on-line Women in Sport newsletter (WISe-news) providing relevant information on issues of interest
  • Developing a Female Sport Administrators Network (F.A.N)
  • Implementing a Professional Development and Mentoring program
  • Running an Annual Women in Sport Conference
  • Reviewing the women's Get Active Program
