Professional Development and Mentoring Program

vicsport piloted a unique and innovative professional development and mentoring program that commenced in April, 2009.

The program was funded by the Department of Planning and Community Development (Sport and Recreation Victoria) and delivered for State Sporting Associations. The pilot program was open to women currently employed in middle management positions within SSA's, with the aim of up skilling future high level managers and CEO's.

Program Details:

The program covers a range of topics aimed at improving fundamental sports management and leadership skills and was delivered by high level managers and CEO's currently working in the industry. Upon completion of the course, each participant was matched with a suitable mentor within the business or sport sector to assist in their ongoing professional development.

Participants were then encouraged to apply learning's from the course within their own organisation.

Program Modules Included:

  • finance/budgeting
  • human resource management
  • professional writing
  • strategic planning
  • business communication
  • governance

Eleven participants were chosen to undertake the 2009 program from a variety of State Sports Associations in Victoria. Due to the success of the pilot program, vicsport continued the Professional Development and Mentoring Program in 2010, with eight participants being selected to take part. The program was again supported by the Department of Planning and Community Development (Sport and Recreation Victoria).

vicsport would like to thank all CEOs, participants, presenter, mentors and the Department of Planning & Community Development (Sport and Recreation Victoria) for their support of this program.
