Women's Mentor Bank

Mentoring is a valuable experience for any individual to undertake and can be applied to any aspect of daily life. With females under-represented in middle and senior staffing positions within the sports industry, vicsport has been endeavouring to upskill and support those who wish to take the next step. Mentoring is a large part of this, and it has been identified that a Mentor Bank would be beneficial to females wishing to develop their career with the support and guidance of an individual, external from their organisation.

The development of the Women's Mentor Bank aims to provide females from within Victorian State Sporting Associations the opportunity to easily access an individual who can assist in their personal and professional development via the mentoring process.

What Is Required:

To Become A Mentor

  • vicsport strongly encourage both males and females from all levels (in and out of the sporting industry) to consider being involved in this program
  • Complete the "Mentor Questionairre" (below) and return it to Fiona Kuilboer - fionak@vicsport.asn.au
  • You will be notified when the next matching session occurring and asked to attend if available

To Become A Mentee (Participant)

  • Mentee applications are currently only open to females from State Sport Associations
  • Complete the "Mentee Questionairre" (below) and return it to Fiona Kuilboer - fionak@vicsport.asn.au
  • You will be notified when the next matching session occurring and asked to attend if available

Matching Process

  • Mentees and Mentors will be matched according to skills, experiences, and reasons for being involved in the program (ie. An individual wanting assistance in governance will be matched with a mentor experienced in this area)
  • This information is requested within each both questionairres

What Happens Next?

  • A Mentor Bank session will be held so that all individuals can meet and spend a short amount of time with each other to ascertain if there is a personality fit as well as the skills fit that has been previously identified.
  • At this session, all participants will be provided 3 to 4 potential matches
  • They will have 10 - 15 minutes together to discuss why they want to take part in a mentoring partnership and what they would like to get out of it.
  • It is up to the MENTEE to follow up potential Mentoring relationships.
  • A template Mentoring Parnership document will be provided in which both parties will outline and agree on the length, purpose and goals of the mentoring relationship so that they clearly understand what is required.
  • Both the Mentee and Mentor need to recognise that there may be situations where a mentoring match does not work.
